Grand Prairie, Texas- After a powerful victory Wednesday night in its very first match in club history, Texas United hopes to extend its winning streak in another home game against FC Cleburne.
Coach Higginbotham and his team started the first half successfully, pressuring FC Cleburne’s defense at every opportunity.
The goals started coming in at the 28-minute mark when midfielder Flavio Guzman hit a powerful shot that placed the score 1-0 over FC Cleburne.
The minimal 1-0 score wasn’t enough for Texas United. Before the first half was over, the second goal came at the 43-minute mark when Guzman assisted forward Miguel Velasquez to leave the score 2-0 at the half.
The second half heated up things at AirHogs Stadium for both teams.
As soon as the second half started, Texas United was up 3-0 in the 46th minute courtesy of forward Nenad Markovic.
FC Cleburne put up a fight in the second half. Down 3-0, FC Cleburne made a comeback scoring a penalty kick 54th minute by forward Anthony Powell.
Texas United countered this with another goal in the 56th minute by forward Malik Shaheed. In the 59th minute of the match, FC Cleburne scored another goal this time by defender Kwabena Sadon-Amoah.
FC Cleburne tried creating more scoring opportunities, but Texas United’s defense held it down and the final score of the game was 4-2.
This win is Texas United’s first club and home win in the PDL. Man of the match for Texas United was Velasquez with one goal and two assists.
FC Cleburne visits Texas United at AirHogs Stadium again Saturday May 20, with kick-off at 12 p.m.
