RECAP: TEXAS UNITED DEFEATS ENERGY FC U23 IN FIRST AWAY GAME OF THE SEASON
Grand Prairie, TX - Texas United was in action again on May 20th as the team traveled to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to visit the Energy FC U23 team. The match concluded with the score of 3-2, with Texas United grabbing the first road win of the season.
Texas United found themselves down a goal early, as Lewi Evans opened the scoring with the first goal of the match in the 6th minute. After end-to-end action for the next couple of minutes, Texas United had themselves a penalty that was saved by goalkeeper Cooper Clark.
Texas United responded from the saved penalty with a lengthy spell of possession where the team recorded three shots in six minutes, none of which found the back of the net.
In the 35th minute, Texas United earned a corner kick which found the head of Matthew Constant. Constant directed the ball across the face of goal and found itself in the back of the net to tie the match up at 1-1.
The away team continued the pressure just before halftime, forcing the Energy FC U23 goalkeeper to make another save in the 45th minute. The score read 1-1 at the break.
Scoring started early in the second half, with Julio Vargas grabbing his first of the night in the 48th minute thanks to another penalty given away by the home team. This was followed by an impressive length of possession by Texas United.
Vargas scored the second of the night to increase Texas United’s lead to 3-1 in the 60th minute. However, the goal was matched just three minutes later to make it 3-2 after Energy FC U23 player Louis Bennet scored a free kick from just outside of the penalty box.
The match opened up after the free kick goal by Energy FC U23, which saw Texas United goalscorer Matthew Constant leave the match early after receiving the team’s first red card of the season. At the final whistle, the score read 3-2 in favor of Texas United.
